Why Choosing the Right Fabrics for Boat Interiors and Exteriors is Crucial

Experienced sailors know that selecting the right materials for boat interiors and exteriors is essential. Materials must be resistant to moisture, salt, sunlight, and fire. Moisture and salt, combined with intense sunlight, create a potent combination that can cause significant damage to boats.

Given the short sailing season, no one wants to spend valuable time in the marina waiting for replacements. However, many seasoned sailors sometimes opt for non-marine parts due to their availability or lower cost. For example, they might install a regular faucet or bring a home item aboard because of personal preference or budget constraints.

Such choices often lead to regret after just one season.

Can You Achieve the Same Comfort on Your Boat as at Home?

Once, it was said that seeking luxury at sea was like chasing the horizon. But with advancements in maritime technology, it's now possible to enjoy the same level of comfort on your boat as you do in your home—assuming proper maintenance and Poseidon's favor.

Soledad Marine Textiles offers products that are not only durable and resistant but also comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and timeless. We have put immense effort into balancing these qualities during development.

Say goodbye to using home textiles on your boat. Choose Soledad’s durable marine products for long-lasting performance and comfort.

What are the essential facts about marine fabrics that every boat should know?

Well, just a few.

1. outdoor fabrics are not made to resist the combination of salt, sea and constant exposure to the sun. Read more about it under Product Information, Resistance to Sun.

2. its not the use that wears off the marine fabrics - its the exposure to marine enviroments.

3. if the fabrics you are using on your boat are outdoor and not marine - you will surely enjoy them - but just for one season. Read about the difference between the nautical and outdoor fabrics here

4. the real enemy is the mold! That is why the real marine textiles are always having antifungal properties. (check our certificate on the link!)

5. polyester is durable, yes. But to sit on it after it has been under the Sun for the whole day it's not really comfortable. That's why you need an organic fabric. Nothing feels like natural fabrics on the naked skin.

6. you deserve comfort, and the linens if they are not marine will most definitely acquire a funny smell.

Soledad Marine Textile

Sun Resistance

Keep your upholstery looking fresh with our sun-resistant fabrics. Designed to withstand UV rays and prevent fading, our high-quality materials offer long-lasting protection and durability.

Discover the best solution for extending the life of your upholstery with Soledad, because...

Soledad loves the Sun

And our name and logo say it as well.

In fact, SOL in Latin means “the Sun” and we didn't choose this symbolism by chance.

Currently, on the market you can find some really fine designer items marketed as marine and these fabrics may look outstanding, but if they do not have adequate UV protection, they will quickly fade under the influence of the Sun. You will not be able to enjoy these more that one season.

Soledad’s textiles do not fade even under the influence of UV radiation and will retain its shape and shine and be sure that they’ll be your faithful and reliable companion during many years on the sea.

Also, Soledad One fabrics is made of organic and sustainable material developed in such a way as to prevent overheating, which ultimately means that even in the highest temperature season you can comfortably sit on it without sweating or feeling uncomfortable.

All our products are informed by our experience and you, our customers. We are aware that the marine fabrics are always exposed to the Sun and that is the main difference between the outdoor and marine fabrics. Outdoor fabrics are made to stay in the shadow while marine are made to be exposed to the relentless Sun throughout all of the seasons!

Resistant to Fading & Comfortable in the High Temperature Season

Material Durability

Textiles Designed for Marine Conditions

Are you sure your deck upholstery, with its beautiful printed motifs of anchors and seaweed, can handle wet bathing suits and the harsh conditions of sea life?

Sea water, sunlight, wind, and salty air can quickly cause fabrics to fade and deteriorate. Even the highest-quality textiles are vulnerable to fading and tearing in these tough conditions. Unless your textiles are specifically engineered to resist sun, salt, and fungi, they may only last a season or two.

While many materials may look great at first, they often lack the durability needed to survive the challenging conditions at sea. The only fabric on the market today with the necessary properties to endure these elements is SOLEDAD ONE.

We believe in simplicity and functionality, but we also know that vacation life calls for a touch of patterns and colors. However, we don’t rely on prints.

So, what do we use instead?

We’ve chosen to decorate our textiles exclusively with embroidery and jacquard. Why? Because printed patterns can’t withstand the demands of marine conditions and frequent washing. Our mission is to produce highly functional nautical textiles that are not only durable but also eco-friendly.

The embroidery we use is crafted from top-tier threads made by the renowned German company Madeira, ensuring durability and resistance to marine conditions.

We want to save you from the frustration of textiles that won’t survive the season. With SOLEDAD ONE, you can trust that your investment will last.

Marine Fabrics vs. Standard Outdoor Fabrics: What’s the Difference?

For years, marine fabrics have been mistaken for regular outdoor textiles. But while outdoor fabrics are made to withstand occasional exposure to the elements, they aren’t built for the extreme, year-round conditions of marine environments.

Marine fabrics are engineered to endure relentless sun, salt, and moisture—the very factors that cause standard outdoor materials to break down. They do more than just look good; they protect your boat’s interior and provide long-term durability while maintaining a healthier onboard environment.

The Power of Indanthrone Dyes

Color durability is just as important as fabric durability when it comes to marine textiles. That’s why high-performance marine fabrics use Indanthrone dyes, a class of highly stable, fade-resistant pigments. These dyes offer key benefits that make them ideal for marine environments:

  • UV Resistance – Maintains color vibrancy even under relentless sun exposure.
  • Saltwater Durability – Withstands constant contact with salty air and seawater without fading or degrading.
  • Weather Resilience – Holds up against extreme heat, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures.
  • Non-Bleeding & Non-Degrading – Prevents color from washing out or transferring onto surfaces.
  • Deep, Rich Color – Provides a lasting, high-quality finish that enhances the aesthetics of marine fabrics.

Unlike standard dyes that fade quickly, Indanthrone Blue ensures long-lasting color stability, making it an essential component of true marine-grade textiles.

Soledad One, Pero Marine, Hvar, Dalmatia, Kvarner and Kornati collection products are ALL Indanthrone.

Why?

Because this is the only way to go when it comes to marine environments.

And it is especially important for upholstery fabrics as they are meant to last and serve.

The Problem with Sponge Upholstery on Boats

In outdoor settings, many lounge chairs and seating sets are made with sponge fillings. Likewise, many boats still rely on traditional sponge-based upholstery. To protect it, some use laminated acrylic waterproof fabrics. While this prevents water absorption, it also traps heat, making the cushions unbearably hot in the sun—not to mention the added plastic, which is neither eco-friendly nor comfortable.

On land, this might not be a big deal—you can simply head inside and relax on your regular couch. But on a boat, that’s not an option. Your summer life happens in the cockpit, and if your cushions are rotten, damp, smelly, or dirty, they can ruin the entire experience.

In this setup, comfort is sacrificed just to keep the sponge intact. But does that really make sense?

You shouldn’t have to choose between comfort and durability. You deserve both.

To conclude - Why Sponge Isn’t Ideal for Boats?

Sponge upholstery might work on land, but on a boat, it’s a recipe for trouble. When exposed to moisture, sponge:

  • Deteriorates over time
  • Loses its shape
  • Absorbs odors

There’s a better way.

The High-Tech Alternative: SoleDry® Boat Cushions & Mattresses

SoleDry® uses an advanced resin-based filling designed specifically for marine environments. Unlike sponge and foam, SoleDry®:

✔ Never loses its shape
✔ Dries immediately

✔ Resists odors
✔ Is incredibly easy to clean
✔ Keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter
✔ Comes with a lifetime guarantee

So, in conclusion:

Jump on it

Let the kids play on it.

Sit on it in a wet swimsuit.

Spill red wine, engine oil, or coffee—just rinse it off.

Forget your cushions in the cockpit overnight? No problem.

Didn’t air out your boat all winter? SoleDry® is not like sponge or foam – it doesn’t hold grudges.

After a long winter season, even if you left it outside, go on - just sit, lounge, or sleep on it—and experience the same comfort as the day you first got it!

Are you convinced?

Our brand is driven by a deep love for the sea and sailing, prioritizing quality over quantity. We believe in buying less but smarter, ensuring that every product we create is both sustainable and durable.

Our Patent

In addition to securing a patent, Soledad Marine Textile® is also a registered trademark.

Embroidery

Embroidery is the only right choice when it comes to branding marine textiles because print cannot resist the harsh environments.

During our testing stages we have realized that the safest bet is to use the top quality Madeira thread for our marine textile embroidery.

We use a Madeira fiber, favored for its resistance to sunlight, abrasion, and many chemicals, along with its strength, ease of washing and drying, and cost-effectiveness.

Embroidery

All our products can be customized with embroidery.

Send us your boat's logo in vector format and we'll make it perfect for you to enjoy for years to come.
